Pistachio, Milk and Coffee: Inside the Notes of Habibi Vanilla

Every perfume has a list of notes. Few lists read quite like a morning ritual.

Roasted pistachio. Warm milk. Coffee. Then vanilla, sandalwood and something soft that stays on the skin long after the cup is empty.

Habibi Vanilla, composed by perfumer Clément Marx, takes its name from habibi, a tender Arabic term of endearment. It is a fragrance about closeness: the kind of intimacy where words are no longer needed. Here, note by note, is how it is built.

How to Read a Perfume's Notes

Before we open the bottle, a quick word on structure.

Perfumers often describe a fragrance in three movements. The top notes are what you notice first, bright and immediate. The heart notes emerge as the opening softens and give the fragrance its character. The base notes unfold slowly and linger the longest, forming what is known as the drydown.

The movements overlap rather than follow in strict order. But they are a helpful map, and Habibi Vanilla follows it beautifully.

The Opening: Roasted Pistachio, Hazelnut and Warm Milk

Pistachio

Pistachio is one of the most intriguing notes in modern perfumery. It can lean sweet, like a pastry counter, or it can lean savoury and green. In Habibi Vanilla it is roasted: toasted, quietly rich, with the faint warmth of something just out of the oven.

Hazelnut

Hazelnut deepens the nutty accord. Where pistachio brings a soft, almost buttery roundness, hazelnut adds a darker, toastier edge. Together they give the opening texture rather than sugar.

Warm milk

Then comes the note that softens everything. Warm milk wraps the nuts in creaminess, smoothing their roasted edges. It is the most comforting of scents: familiar, tender, a little nostalgic.

The result is an opening that feels edible without ever feeling like dessert.

The Heart: Coffee Absolute and Amber

As the first impression settles, the composition turns deeper.

Coffee absolute

In perfumery, an absolute is a highly concentrated aromatic extract, prized for capturing a material's richness. Coffee absolute brings the roasted, slightly bitter depth of freshly brewed coffee.

That bitterness matters. Placed against warm milk and pistachio, it acts as a counterpoint, the way a shot of espresso balances steamed milk in a cup. It keeps the fragrance from tipping into sweetness and gives it a darker, more grown-up character.

Amber

Amber in perfumery is not a single ingredient but a warm, golden accord: resinous, enveloping, softly glowing. Here it gathers the coffee and the nuts together and carries them toward the base.

The Base: Vanilla, Sandalwood and Creamy Musks

Vanilla CO₂

Vanilla is the heart of the name, and it arrives last, as the fragrance settles onto the skin. Habibi Vanilla uses Vanilla CO₂, an extract obtained using carbon dioxide, a method valued for giving a rounded, true-to-the-pod impression of vanilla.

Sandalwood

Creamy, smooth and softly woody, sandalwood gives the vanilla structure. It is what makes the drydown feel calm and grounded rather than sugary.

Creamy musks

Finally, creamy musks bring the whole composition close to the skin. This is the part of Habibi Vanilla that lingers as a trace: intimate, warm, unmistakably personal.

Why These Notes Work Together

Read the list quickly and you might expect something very sweet. Wear it, and the balance becomes clear.

  • Roasted against creamy: pistachio and hazelnut meet warm milk.
  • Bitter against soft: coffee absolute cuts through the milkiness.
  • Golden against woody: amber and vanilla rest on sandalwood.

This interplay is what makes Habibi Vanilla a nutty gourmand perfume rather than a sugary one. Each note has a partner that holds it in check. If you have been looking for a pistachio vanilla perfume with depth, this contrast is the reason to try it.

How to Wear Habibi Vanilla

Let it unfold

Habibi Vanilla is an Eau de Parfum at 20% concentration. Give it time on the skin: the coffee and amber heart, and the vanilla and musk drydown, are where much of its character lives.

Choose your moments

It feels especially at home now, as October brings cooler mornings and earlier evenings. Think wool sweaters, a slow weekend breakfast, a long dinner by candlelight.

Apply with care

Spray onto moisturized pulse points, such as the wrists, the inside of the elbows or the base of the neck, and avoid rubbing your wrists together. One or two sprays is often enough for a scent that sits close and warm.

Bringing the Notes Home

If you love the vanilla and amber at the centre of Habibi Vanilla, you can let the same warmth fill a room.

DREAMER in London – Cedarwood & Vanilla evokes a grand old theatre or library of another time: delicious firewood, tobacco and a hint of vanilla. Light it on a bookshelf as the afternoon fades, and the room begins to echo the woody, vanilla drydown on your skin.

For something more golden, HERO in Niani – Amber & Patchouli offers creamy vanilla and toasted tonka beans: a sweet yet subtle warmth that sits naturally alongside the amber heart of Habibi Vanilla.

Scent on the skin, scent in the air. The same story, told twice.
